It’s not helping

I hate the phrase “hearts and minds” – it makes me want to puke every-time I read it or see it. “Winning hearts and minds” what a nonsensical phrase.
Men in someone elses country with guns and tanks and bombs don’t win hearts and minds, they piss people off. Did the French think when the Nazi’s occupied Paris, “magnifique Le Nazi’s are here”? I doubt it. Maybe that’s what they thought when the Allies arrived to liberate the place, but I’m sure that was a short lived sentiment, shortly after it was more than likely, “ok thanks you came, you helped out, now get the fuck out so we can go back to being like we were before you got here”.
I can’t imagine how angry people get when there’s a standing army in your front yard. I don’t think my heart or mind is going to do dances of joy at the prospect of having my door kicked in, my family harassed, my town blown up, other peoples politics stuffed down my throat, nope I think I’d feel powerless, oppressed, angry and trapped.
