Note to self.

Note to self.

When most people invest in something we expect to see a return on our investment – with a house (prior to the market implosion) 25% return on investment over time, maybe if you were really lucky 100%, double your money, in stocks you might see  18% growth and think “well that was good going” I’m [...]

I don’t believe in conspiracy theories. But I do believe in evolution, in this particular sense, I’m not talking about Darwin’s theory of evolution, although I wholeheartedly believe in that. I’m talking about another kind of evolution, a more insidious type of shift.
We seem to have evolved our free-speech to such an extent that it’s [...]

Whats good for the goose – not so good for the gander.

Whats good for the goose – not so good for the gander.

The finance ministers of the G20 can’t agree on how to limit bonuses to bankers – the U.S, the U.K and Canada seemingly would rather do nothing about it what so ever. The BBC report here .
One great idea they came up with,  is to “claw-back” bonuses if they are deemed ill-fitting to the goal [...]

Are we missing the forest for the trees?

Are we missing the forest for the trees?

1 Carbon credit is supposedly the offset for 1 ton of carbon.  Credits can be traded ,with the obvious advent of more and more carbon somehow they will become a trade-able commodity if I’m to understand it correctly.
We’ve just witnessed the melt-down of the financial world – which came about primarily through unregulated markets being [...]

When the new thing has been staring you in the face

Amazingly enough if you chip away at a problem long enough – the break through comes when you least expect it – can’t plan for them:)
For 2 months I’ve been confounded by a technical concern – turns out the answer had been screaming at me the whole time – I was looking in the wrong [...]

The wheels of progress

The wheels of progress

It seems that most times I start talking to people about where our evolutionary path is possibly leading us – well at least where I suspect it’s leading us, I wind up in one argument or another – usually something to do with

The perception of who we are – but based entirely on sentiment
One form [...]

When stats just don’t add up

1 in 7 return to militant ways – that’s what I’m told in the New York Times – a study shows that reactivity back into nasty ways happens this often. I wonder how they figured that one out – a terrorist census? Did they do a door to door somewhere and poll it?
Get out of [...]

Made in ?

So it isn’t just me that reacts to airports and the way people are treated as they enter a country – I’d written about it just a week or so ago – I then went and listened to Hendrik Hertzberg speaking (contributing editor at the New Yorker) coincidentally he also wrote about the subject in [...]

George does it again

George does it again

I’m not sure that all things are related, but then I’m not sure that they’re not either – I suspect that the 8 years of hellish Bush time affected far more deeply than was first imagined – I don’t think a shrug of the shoulders can make it better, brushing it under the carpet is [...]
